A Musical Journey

Born into a musical family, Maura O’Connell’s passion for music was ignited at a young age. She began her musical career in Ennis, working at her family’s fish shop before pursuing music full-time. Maura’s involvement in the local folk club scene alongside Mike Hanrahan led to the formation of the country music duo ‘Tumbleweed’.

Maura’s professional music journey took flight during a tour of the US in 1980, where she joined De Dannan as a vocalist. Her talent shone brightly, and she soon became a prominent figure in the American music scene. Collaborating with renowned artists such as Dolly Parton, James Taylor, and Alison Krauss, Maura carved out a successful career in Nashville.

Maura O’Connell’s talents extend beyond the realm of music, as demonstrated by her role in Martin Scorsese’s epic film “Gangs of New York” where she portrayed an Irish migrant street singer.
